HANDS-ON: Vacheron Constantin's Traditionnelle 14-Day Tourbillon At Wempe NYC
The tourbillon is the king of complications; do keep in mind, this is not an opinion, but a fact. And while stopping by Wempe's Fifth Avenue boutique, located just around the corner from the Peninsula, I had the pleasure to view a selection of tourbillons from various distinguished manufactures. Yes, all of the pieces were spectacular, but one was absolutely striking. Enter the superlative Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle 14-Day Tourbillon.
A 42 millimeter pink gold case houses Vacheron's immaculately finished caliber 2260 manual wind movement. As stated in the name, this watch features a power reserve of 14 days (336 hours)--remarkably powered by only a single mainspring barrel--and a tourbillon. Directly atop the tourbillon's carriage is a subsidiary seconds. Furthermore, a perfectly aligned [with the tourbillon] power reserve indicator is situated at 12 o'clock.
The rather large, but traditional, off-white dial gives a sense of understated elegance and masculinity to the overall look of this watch. While the case is all gold, it's not too flashy and rests flat on the wrist. The exhibition caseback bears the Hallmark of Geneva on the outer edge.
Vacheron's Traditionnelle 14-Day Tourbillon is a must-have in any million-dollar watch collection. And at $290,000, you can't beat the value.
