IWC has released the Pilot’s Spitfire Chronograph Edition. This watch has been created as a symbol of the brand’s seemingly everlasting (by everlasting, I only mean two years) partnership with the annual Tribeca Film Festival. This watch is a limited edition of 101 pieces, 100 in stainless, and 1 in red gold. The case size is comparable to your standard sports watch with a diameter of 43 mm and a thickness of about 15.5 mm. This watch is a modern take on some of the more classic IWC Pilot’s Chronographs due to its contemporary slate dial with maroon sub seconds dials (similar color combo can also be seen on last year’s Tribeca Film Fest’s IWC Portuguese). Everything from the watch’s hand assembled in-house IWC Cal. 89365 35 jewel movement to the appeal of owning a watch of such exclusivity puts this timepiece on the top of this year’s The Watch Adviser’s b-day watch wish list.
P.S. For all of you who are drooling at the picture of the red gold version shown above, I am very, very sorry. I can painstakingly say that this magnificent watch sold for double the estimate at a hammer price of $55,000 at last week’s Antiquorum “Modern and Vintage Timepieces” Auction in Manhattan. Although the red gold version is no longer up for sale, you can still purchase one in stainless steel from select IWC boutiques within the United States.
