Phillips Watches: This Is Cool :-)
Judging by his tremendous successes--including having presided over Christie's Watch Department for over a decade--his remarkable skills as an auctioneer, and his vast expertise in important timepieces, I'm confident the return of Aurel Bacs will leave a positive impact on the world of collectible watches. Mr. Bacs, along with Livia Russo, Paul Boutros, and Nathalie Monbaron, are at the helm of Phillip's newly-formed watch department. So far, I'm extremely impressed by the watches they have gathered for their upcoming Geneva sale(s) in early May.
Notable lots are as follows:
A so-called "Leonardo" Left-handed Rolex Stella Day-Date (chocolate/oxblood dial and baguette and round-cut diamond hour markers. Impeccable white gold case and presidential bracelet, circa 1960's. Most likely piece-unique.
The exceptional Rolex 1665 Oman Seadweller with a Gold Khanhar. Untouched dial, mint case, and un-lumed hour plots (an acute, yet seldom-seen detail). Complemented by the inclusion of various papers and original service documents. One of only four known examples.
An astonishingly rare Patek Philippe 130 mono-pusher chronograph cased in steel. This example is a two-owner watch, and has never been altered in any way, shape, or form. Fitted with its original buckle. Sold on March 24th, 1937 in Buenos Aires to a MD.
