Introducing IWC's Portofino Hand-wound Eight Days Edition "Tribeca Film Festival 2015"
The luxury Swiss watch manufacture, IWC, has unveiled another distinctive timepiece inspired by their longtime affiliation with New York's prestigious Tribeca Film Festival. Commonly, I do not find "limited edition" watches to be especially compelling. However, between this IWC's magnificent case, slate-grey dial, and Bordeaux subsidiary seconds, it's actually a pretty darn cool watch. I'm definitely a fan of the contrasting colors and striking design, yet this watch is equally impressive from a technical standpoint.
The Portofino Hand-wound Eight Days Edition "Tribeca Film Festival" wristwatch measures 45 millimeters in diameter and it is crafted from 18 karat white gold. The oversized case houses a perfectly-executed caliber 59360 4Hz chronograph movement. Possibly the most enticing aspect of this piece is the inclusion of just one chronograph pusher ("mono-pusher"), a totally unnecessary, but spectacular, feature that's seldom-seen in modern watchmaking.
Via the sapphire crystal exhibition case back, the 36-jewel movement is in clear view. Apart from the impressive 192-hour power reserve (eight days), a date indicator has also been incorporated by IWC into this mechanism
This [ultra] limited wristwatch (piece unique, actually) will be sold exclusively through Christie's Watch Department from April 1st to April 10th in an online-only auction. All proceeds will be granted to young filmmakers, currently studying at the Tribeca Film Institute.
