My Thoughts On The New Hublot Miami-Exclusive Big Bang Ferrari 305

Hublot's Big Bang Ferrari 305 in King Gold.

Hublot, founded by Carlo Crocco in 1980, is a remarkable brand that has left an everlasting impression on the Swiss watch industry. Their contemporary designs, once reminiscent of sports watches of the 1980's, have evolved into bold horological contraptions through the use of exotic materials and brilliant hues.

On Saturday, the 15th of November, Hublot's VIP clients gathered by the Hublot Bal Harbour boutique to view a collection of over 40 rare and historic Ferarri super cars. Then, inside the boutique, Hublot presented the 75-piece limited edition Big Bang Ferrari 305 timepiece to their guests.

The Big Bang Ferrari 305 features a large 45mm case in King Gold or Titanium, a reliable and impeccably-finished caliber 1241 Unico flyback chronograph movement, and two hand-stitched leather/rubber straps.

This watch is fantastic no doubt, but how much longer can Hublot continue producing different variants of Big Bang chronographs while keeping clientele interested? I'm not saying this to put down Hublot, as Hublot happens to be one of my favorite modern manufacturers, I'm just being realistic. We've all seen the last limited edition Big Bang, which you can read about HERE in my article at Forbes, but to produce another Ferrari-inspired limited edition in a matter of weeks isn't sensible. As a friendly piece of advice to Hublot, I really think they should change some things up a bit in terms of aesthetics.

Under the leadership of Jean-Claude Biver, the entire LVMH Watch Division has been thriving. Also, with Ricardo Guadalupe at the helm, Hublot has tremendously grown in wealth and production capabilities.  I still feel it will be helpful down the road, in attracting serious collectors, to incorporate new ideas--placing an emphasis on case design.
